BGR1: I wanted to reach out in advance to give families notice, for your planning purposes, of the possibility of an early release at 12:50 pm tomorrow, Friday, January 12. We will need to watch to see if the forecast holds before making that decision tomorrow morning and to see if the temperatures will in fact drop as is being reported. I hope that this advance notice tonight helps our families plan in case this early release becomes a reality. We appreciate your flexibility as we do our best to keep our students and staff safe with learning and supports moving forward. If we decide to have an early release, we should be able to get notice to families by mid-morning tomorrow. Thank you. Dr. Matt Frederickson Superintendent

All, I could not be more proud of our APR results that were released publicly this morning, which is a testament to the great work our teachers and staff members are doing with kids. I am especially proud of the fact that we have gotten 98% of the points possible for Continuous Improvement, when District Continuous Improvement has been a focus for our teaching and learning practices in recent years. The APR focuses on how our students perform on the MAP assessment, how our SPED, Free and Reduced Lunch and other subgroup students perform, graduation rate, attendance, College and Career Readiness metrics and how much our students have grown from year to year. We ended up in the top 102 school districts out of 553 in Missouri, so top 18%, and highest in our region of the state and highest in the EMO conference. Last year, we were in the top five of schools our size in the entire state, and now we have moved up to third. This is tremendously exciting for me, and I am just as proud as I can be of the work our staff members are doing every day with our students! Attached are the schools in the group of those our size and ranked by their scores from this year and including their ranking number from 2022 and another file with information about schools in the EMO conference. It is a GREAT DAY to be a BOBCAT!!! The Department has issued the following news release: Missouri Releases 2023 Annual Performance Reports https://dese.mo.gov/communications/news-releases/ Missouri Releases 2023 Annual Performance Reports The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has released the statewide Annual Performance Reports (APRs) for the 2022-23 school year. APRs demonstrate the progress local education agencies (LEAs) and their individual buildings are making towards meeting the Standards and Indicators in the sixth version of the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP 6). There are several key considerations when reviewing the 2023 APR data: • Data may only be compared to 2022 APR data, and not previous APRs released under MSIP 5. • The statewide distribution of APR scores in 2023 is similar to that in 2022. • Overall scores at the LEA level reflect the statewide assessment results reported in August 2023, and statewide trends in academic performance align to those reported nationally. • Interventions to fill in learning gaps must continue at a higher rate. • Chronic absenteeism remains a concern and has increased most significantly among the lowest performing groups of students since the pandemic. • Continuous improvement plans reflect that LEAs recognize the importance that planning plays in improving instruction and student performance. “It is our hope that schools can use these data — along with local assessments and other key data points — to inform their continuous school improvement plans and to use this unique period of time in education to reimagine how we can best serve students while continuing to focus on the basics such as reading and math,” said Commissioner of Education Margie Vandeven. “Statewide, we will continue to focus on improving teacher recruitment and retention, addressing chronic absenteeism, and advancing early learning and literacy efforts.” MSIP is the state’s system for reviewing and accrediting/classifying LEAs. It outlines expectations for school practices and student outcomes, with the goal of each student graduating ready for success in college, career, and life. The 2023 APR is the second APR generated under the newest iteration of MSIP 6 and will be used for accreditation purposes next year, once the 2024 APR data are released and three years of data are available to support those determinations. Step-by-step instructions on accessing the 2023 APR data are available to help users navigate the different viewing options for the report. Additional resources can be found on the MSIP 6 webpage. https://dese.mo.gov/media/pdf/how-access-2023-apr https://dese.mo.gov/quality-schools/mo-school-improvement-program Matthew L. Dear BGR-1 Families and Staff, In the interest of maintaining transparent communication, I am reaching out to share an incident that occurred at our BG campus this morning. We experienced an false fire alarm due to someone accidentally engaging a pull station, and I want to reassure you that our vigilant staff responded exactly how we practice. They promptly evacuated our students from the buildings, following protocol, until authorities confirmed it was safe. We have already identified the source of this alarm and are taking the necessary steps to rectify the situation. The safety of our students remains our top priority, and we will continue to work diligently to ensure their wellbeing. On a brighter note, we have some exciting events ahead. Our football team will be competing in their final regular game tonight, we are hosting many schools at our cross country meet today, and our softball team is set to take on South Harrison in the Quarter Finals tomorrow. Let's rally behind our teams and show our Bobcat pride! Thank you for your continued support, and remember, it's always a great day to be a Bobcat! Sincerely, Matt Frederickson, PhD Superintendent

5 October 2023 Dear BGR-1 Family, It is with a heavy heart and profound personal sadness that I write to inform you that we learned this morning of the passing of a cherished member of our school community and dear friend, Bob Kirkpatrick. He was not just a remarkable leader but also a true servant of our community, whose contributions to our district have left an indelible mark on all of us. Mr. Kirkpatrick was a multifaceted individual, with a journey that touched the lives of many. From serving as a soldier in the Vietnam War, to his service in education as a teacher, coach, building principal, career center director and even stepping into the superintendency upon the passing of Murray Smith, he was always willing to accept the call for servant leadership with an ever patient and confident style. His commitment to shaping the minds and futures of countless students was evident in the lasting impact he had on the lives he touched. He continued to serve his community diligently taking on roles as the County Clerk and, most recently, as the President of the Board of Education leading our board as a thoughtful and humble servant. In each capacity, he demonstrated exceptional leadership, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the betterment of our community. Mr. K was not only a colleague but a dear friend to many of us, and had a boundless enthusiasm for our Bobcats and he just loved our school. Details regarding remembrance services and tributes will be shared with the community as they become available. During this difficult time, we offer our support, condolences, and strength to Mr. Kirkpatrick's family and loved ones. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Matthew Frederickson, PhD Superintendent Bowling Green R-1 School District
