The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) improves teaching and student learning. National Board-Certified Teachers (NBCT) are highly accomplished educators who meet high and rigorous standards.
Becky Turner and Katie Penrod are our first two National Board-Certified Teachers since implementing a program in the Bowling Green R-1 School District a few years ago to incentivize and encourage teachers to get board-certified. Like board-certified doctors and accountants, teachers who achieve National Board Certification have met rigorous standards through intensive study, expert evaluation, self-assessment and peer review. NBPTS offer 25 certificates that cover a variety of subject areas and student development levels. A National Board Teacher Certificate is valid for five years with the opportunity to renew certification.
